FunnelFizz vs HubSpot: An Honest Comparison for Modern SaaS

HubSpot is the safe default for marketing tech at most SaaS companies. It's also a CRM-first suite designed for a sales-led world that most modern SaaS doesn't live in anymore. If you're running a freemium-to-paid funnel where revenue lives in Stripe, the fit is uneven. This post compares FunnelFizz and HubSpot for product-led SaaS teams — what each does well, where the gaps are, and how a sane migration looks.
- Choose HubSpot if you have a sales-led motion, a multi-team revenue org, and you need a CRM with deals, pipelines, and customer success modules in the same suite.
- Choose FunnelFizz if your funnel is freemium → paid, your conversion events live in Stripe, and you want one timeline from social impression to paid subscription without stitching it together in a spreadsheet.
- Run both in parallel for a week before you switch. Keep HubSpot active. Activate FunnelFizz automations. Compare opens, clicks, and conversion side-by-side. Pause HubSpot only after FunnelFizz wins on the metrics you care about.
HubSpot has been compounding for over a decade. There are real strengths worth naming:
- Breadth of suite. CRM, marketing hub, sales hub, service hub, CMS, operations hub. If you need one vendor for a sales-driven org, the consolidation has appeal.
- Sales workflow depth. Deal stages, pipeline forecasting, rep activity tracking, lead scoring tied to a real CRM object model. None of that is FunnelFizz's job.
- Ecosystem. Thousands of integrations, an agency partner network, a certification program, a years-deep playbook library.
- Maturity at scale. Large marketing teams with dedicated ops, RevOps, and lifecycle specialists know how to wring value out of HubSpot. The org chart fits the tool.
If your company looks like that, HubSpot is probably still the right answer.
FunnelFizz is built for a different shape of company. Solo founders, vibe coders, and small SaaS teams that ship product all week and have no budget for an MQL/SQL handoff machine.
- Funnel-first model. Four fixed stages: AWARENESS → CONSIDERATION → TRIAL → CUSTOMER. Three conversion positions between them. The defaults match how a freemium SaaS actually converts.
- Stripe-native conversion. A
subscription_trialevent enters position 1. Asubscription_paidevent enters position 2. No middleware, no field mapping, no "deal stage" abstraction. - Native email + automations. Drag-and-drop MJML editor. Stage-targeted dynamic recipient lists. Automations as DAGs (Send / Wait / Split / Converge) that fire on stage entry or Stripe events. No second tool for email.
- Splits where they belong. Slice any funnel by source, UTM, channel, device, country, custom event, A/B variant, or Stripe product. The split lives on the funnel, not in a downstream BI tool.
- MCP-native. FunnelFizz exposes a Model Context Protocol server at
mcp.funnelfizz.com. Connect Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT and ask the funnel questions in English — no SQL, no dashboard tour. Setup mutations (tracking, Stripe key validation, OAuth, DNS) are also exposed as agent tools. - Pricing that doesn't require procurement. FREE, HOBBY at $19/month, PRO at $49/month. No enterprise upsell, no TEAM plan, no implementation fee.

FunnelFizz is straightforward and listed on the marketing site:
- FREE: 3 funnels, no email sending, no automations.
- HOBBY ($19/month): 10 funnels, 3,000 emails/month, 1 automation per stage at 3-step depth, 3 AI reports/month, premium provider sources, 7-day free trial.
- PRO ($49/month): 50 funnels, 20,000 emails/month, custom email domain (up to 3 verified), 5 automations per stage at 5-step depth, A/B campaigns, 20 AI reports/month, mentions monitoring, team workspace (up to 5 members), 7-day free trial.
(Live source of truth: funnelfizz.com/pricing. The table here updates with each release.)
HubSpot's pricing is more complicated — multiple hubs, tiers within each, contact-volume metering, onboarding fees on higher tiers. A like-for-like comparison only makes sense once you know which hubs you'd consolidate. As a rough anchor, the marketing-only mid-tier is multiples of FunnelFizz's PRO plan; check hubspot.com/pricing for current numbers.
Don't migrate in week one. The honest playbook:
- Keep HubSpot active. No risk to current automations.
- Sign up for FunnelFizz (FREE tier is enough to evaluate the funnel model and tracking).
- Install the FunnelFizz tracking script on your marketing site.
- Connect Stripe with a restricted key (7 read scopes documented in the FunnelFizz setup guide).
- Connect your providers — X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Google Search Console, Google Ads — for AWARENESS-stage data.
- Rebuild one drip in FunnelFizz alongside the HubSpot equivalent.
- Run both for a week. Compare opens, clicks, conversion.
- Pause HubSpot's automation only after FunnelFizz wins.
The full migration tutorial — exporting contacts, mapping to FunnelFizz profiles, rebuilding drips as DAGs, importing suppression — is documented in the FunnelFizz docs (Migrating from Brevo / HubSpot to FunnelFizz).
Honest limits:
- No CRM. No deals, no pipelines, no rep activity. If you need that, FunnelFizz is the wrong tool — or a complement, not a replacement.
- No customer success / service hub. Same.
- No CMS. Bring your own marketing site.
- Team workspace is capped at 5. PRO-tier only. If you have a 30-person growth team, FunnelFizz isn't sized for you yet.
- No enterprise tier. Highest plan is PRO. There is no TEAM plan, no custom contract, no implementation fee.
If those gaps are blockers, HubSpot is the safer choice. If they're not, FunnelFizz removes a lot of complexity that exists because the legacy stack was built for a different motion.
Before you switch, answer these for your team:
- Where does your revenue actually live? (If it's Stripe, the rest of this exercise is easy.)
- Are your automations triggered by stages or contact properties? (Stage-triggered favors FunnelFizz; property-triggered with deep contact-property logic favors HubSpot.)
- How many people on your team need write access? (More than 5 → not FunnelFizz today.)
- Do you need a CRM in the same product? (Yes → HubSpot. No → either works.)
- Will an AI agent run any of this? (Yes → FunnelFizz's MCP server is a real differentiator.)
If FunnelFizz fits the shape of your funnel, the FREE tier lets you set up tracking, connect Stripe, and see the first conversions land — no commitment. The 7-day HOBBY or PRO trial unlocks email + automations once you're ready to test those.
Self-serve. No demo required. Self-serve cancellation through Stripe Customer Portal if it's not the right fit.
